| News: CHER SHARES: LIFE, LOVE, TATTOOS, POLITICS, PAPARAZZI |
|
By Edna Gundersen
MALIBU, Calif. — Draped Cleopatra-style across a plush sofa, Cher accepts hot raspberry tea from an assistant upstairs in her Italian Renaissance Revival villa, a magnificent 16,000-square-foot estate spread across a bluff offering splendid views of mountains and the Pacific.
A cabinet nearby displays impressive career hardware: a Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, Golden Globes. With these laurels, this luxury and an estimated worth of $600 million, it's understandable that fans and showbiz pundits assume Cher slipped into retirement after her exhaustive and exhausting Farewell Tour ended three years ago.

|
Now the pop queen wants an Asian look in her Malibu mansion — but for that she's got to unload quite a few of her 19th century collectibles.
By Robin Abcarian, Times Staff Writer
September 28, 2006
CHER, a collector of fine English Gothic Revival antiques, is on the phone, happily explaining why she'll feel a little tug next week when the contents of her beachfront Malibu villa are auctioned off at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
"I love the look of Gothic furniture," she says. "It's not like I hate it and want to get rid of it. I am going to miss it, I think. But I thought, oh my God, I will do a whole new thing and just start over."

The auction is expected to bring in more than $1 million, said Lee Dunbar of Sotheby's, one of two firms administering the auction. The other firm is Julien's Auctions.
A"nice percentage"of the proceeds will benefit the Cher Charitable Foundation, the 60-year-old singer-actress said.
